![]() Sacred Sexualityby Rev. Jim Webb and Barbara St. Clair Oliver Sexual Expression is as natural as breathing. It is also the source of sublime pleasure and joy. However, because it has been misunderstood, misinterpreted, and misused, it is also the unfortunate source of guilt, shame and fear that keeps us from living with the natural inner peace that is our birthright. Making Peace with the sacred nature of sexuality can free our minds and hearts of subtle guilt and shame that rob us of peace. We can begin to free our minds by understanding that sexual energy is a most powerful force. One can verify this power in acknowledging the connection to the mind, body, and spirit. The mind involves sexuality in many "thinking" activities. Sleek designs from clothing to buildings have sexual components – male and female parts. Every cell in the body is sexually influenced because reproduction is tied to sexuality and every cell reproduces for life – for the benefit of the whole body. Therefore, the whole body is sexual from beginning to end. The spirit recognizes and basks in this pure and powerful energy. In this fertile ground, healing (both physical and mental) and creative ideation is born. Spirit is the bridge that completes and maintains the mind/body circle. Sexual satisfaction delivers tremendous amounts of emotional well being. The sacral chakra is the energy center that processes this energy. When energy is moved through this center there is a tremendous boost to creativity. One is able to manifest, channel, and originate many things. The sacral chakra is intimately tied to all the other energy centers. Positive energy processing through the sacral chakra results in many increased abilities. This aspect of our own personal empowerment is what early church fathers didn’t want individuals to understand, so the church deemed this information "off limits” to common people. As a result, sexuality became the "forbidden fruit” because of its potential to open people to their own personal and spiritual empowerment. Rev. Jim Webb serves as the Senior Minister of the Takoma Park Chapel, and Ms. Barbara St. Clair Oliver serves as a member of the Board of Directors. |
